Description

A beautiful cottage at Chandos Lake Resort, a short drive to the public sandy Chandos Lake Beach with access to great fishing, boat rentals, and water sports. As part of the Kawartha Lakes region, the Chandos Lake Resort is nestled among a towering array of pine and oak trees on the scenic shores of Chandos Lake.

The Chandos Lake cottages are secluded enough to enjoy a quiet family getaway, yet only a short distance from many local attractions including 2 golf courses, the Gut Conservation Area with numerous waterfall and hiking trails – a photographer’s paradise, and the charming town of Apsley. Here you will find all your basic amenities (groceries, pharmacy, beer and alcohol) along with several quaint shops including the Four Seasons Wellington Gift Shop with some clothing, house décor and the entire upstairs floor now filled with fishing gear, and the local ice cream parlour which serves up the famous Kawartha Dairy ice cream. A perfect way to cool yourself down when you’re away from enjoying the pristine waters of Chandos Lake.

For your enjoyment, there is a community fire-pit, children’s playground, and horseshoes pit for our guests to enjoy. Kayaks, canoe and standup paddle boards are available for use as well. Plus a water trampoline complete with launcher!

ACTIVITIES NEARBY

  • Many artists have made the area their home, and they welcome visitors, especially during the popular Studio Tour in late September. This is also the beginning of our spectacular fall colour season, second to none in Ontario.
  • Well-groomed snowmobile trails greet visitors in the winter. Our local trails are interconnected to the vast Ontario trail system. Cross-country skiers will find groomed trails just off Highway 28 at Silent Lake Provincial Park and the Nordic Ski Trail at Haultain. Enjoy your favourite winter sport and the crisp air of winter in Apsley and surrounding area, the hub of the North Kawarthas.
  • Small sandy beach 200 feet from resort with easy access by paddle boat or by foot.
  • The Gut Conservation Area
South of Glen Alda, about 11 km east of Apsley is a unique conservation area known as The Gut. It is a rugged gorge where the Crowe River has forced its way through thirty meters of Precambrian rock. The rugged terrain and scenic beauty make it one of the gems of eastern Ontario.
  • Petroglyphs Provincial Park
Rock carvings from 600 – 1100 hundred years ago are the feature attraction in this park located 21 km southeast of Apsley. The carvings were created by Algonkian-speaking aboriginal people. The shapes and figures of the over 300 carvings had deep spiritual meaning to their original carvers and are still revered by many as a sacred site.
  • Silent Lake Provincial Park
This park is located 20 km north of Apsley. As the name implies, it is largely undeveloped, allows no motor boats and is well suited for canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and fishing. Campers and day visitors love the picnic areas, the sandy beach, and nature trails in summer. An annual art festival in August is well attended. Groomed cross-country ski trails and winter camping in yurts (Mongolian tents) delight visitors in the winter months.
  • Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park
This is the second largest provincial park in southern Ontario at 36 000 ha (89 000 acres) and features cottages, some camping, canoe routes, pristine wilderness, and a few amenities.
  • Peterborough Game Preserve
Just south of Apsley, this preserve includes Jack Lake and is ideal for nature lovers, artists, photographers, and cross-country skiers.

TESTIMONIALS

My family and I stayed at Harbour Hills Cottages this August for 1 week in the Rockcliff Cottage on top of the hill.  We enjoyed our time very much and Al was always there to help when we needed the water turned on, helped me load our car at the end of our trip as my husband has disabilities. His boys also helped me to bring everything into the cottage when we got there as you can’t park right at the cottage and it’s quite the steep hill up to the cottage or down.  Chandos Lake is beautiful and it’s very peaceful there.  The cottage is very spacious and beds were comfortable and there’s lots of dishes and pots and pans.  I would recommend this cottage resort to families with kids. –Yvonne B.
