The cottage was more than we expected, updated kitchen lots of bedrooms with the bonus bunkie all very clean. The property is huge with a fantastic large sand beach (and sand bar) which our grandkids just loved and asked if we can buy it. Everything you need for a great vacation, close to town of Norland and Coboconk if you need supplies. The owner Bernie was great to deal with as was Kawartha Cottage Vacations, I have already inquired about returning again next year. Highly recommend this property (just not when we want it LOL). —Bill M. (Jun 2023
Shadow Lake Beach Retreat was beautiful. It was much nicer than what the pictures showed. It had everything we needed for a great vacation. Bernie the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. — Claire D. (Aug 2022)
Our family enjoyed an awesome time at Shadow Lake Beach Retreat. The pictures didn’t lie and the accommodations, beach, dock and water amenities were excellent and used often! —Michelle G. (July 2022)
Spent a week here last year, just came back from a returned vacation stay in this fabulous cottage. The updated modern bathroom is great, and the 6 burner barbeque….Wow! Everything as advertised! Will rent and recommend to friends and relatives again for sure. —Laurie & Stephen A (June 2022)
The cottage and the bunkie are tidy, nice and clean. So great to stay at a cottage with no cobwebs. We spent our 35th anniversary at the cottage for a week with our family of 5; but the cottage with the bunkie could comfortably accommodate the # of occupants advertised. We appreciated the host had given us detailed and clear written instructions. It’s great to know they are readily available for questions if necessary; however, we never have to. The new kitchen and appliances are fantastic. Plenty of pots and pans, cups, glasses, utensils and normal cleaning supplies. The two portable bluetooth wireless speakers and the deck’s ceiling mini nights is a nice touch. The wifi signal is excellent, we enjoyed the cottage provided Netflix, Disney and prime tv. The ceiling fans in the kitchen, living room, out on the deck, kept the place comfortably cool. The decks, patio fireplace and boat dock are large, very clean and pleasant to use. The sandy beach and the provided kayaks, paddle boards, a canoe and ample life jackets are wonderful. We used them everyday, not to mention the beautiful sunset and scenic lake! The near by balsam lake provincial park have many hiking trails…love it! We thoroughly loved and enjoyed this beautiful cottage. We have no hesitation to visit the cottage again, and we have recommended it to a few friends and relatives. —Laurie and Stephen A (June 2021)
Excellent cottage and grounds. Our family thoroughly enjoyed spending Thanksgiving at this wonderful place. Everything required for a comfortable vacation was ready available. The owner was a very accommodating host and made our stay as easy as possible. Will definitely be returning, and would highly recommend this for others. —Michael C. (Oct. 2020)
Shadow Lake retreat was ideal for our family group. The cottage itself is well maintained and comfortable – but the property really comes alive as you step out to the rear deck. There is a great view across the lake, with sunsets in the evening. You have a full view of the dock and the beach below, letting you monitor kids activities without having to follow them step by step. With a large table at one end and a conversation pit at the other, we lived and ate out here. Spend your day sitting on the sandy beach, or on the dock. There are kayaks and paddle boards for all ages, and water toys for the youngest. For our younger grandchildren, the beach was perfect – sandy, shallow slope and in sunshine most of the day. Just past the dock the water is about 6 feet deep, great for swimming for the older ones. The fire pit at the top end of the dock is a perfect gathering place to end the day. We will be back. —Daryl M. (July 2020)
This was my first cottage booking, Ken and his team helped me feel reassured at every step during the rental process. Although the pictures were helpful I was so pleasantly pleased with the actual property. The cottage gave us a feeling of a country home and of family welcoming, for all ages. There is so much room inside or outside, rain or shine, hot or cool. Other family members who have been to cottages before said that it was very rare to find all the amendments this cottage had to offer. – Deretta M. (Aug. 2019)
We had a great time at Shadow Lake cottage. The cottage itself was well laid out and spacious. The private beach was “fantastic” for the kids and Bernie had set the place up well. Pretty much everything we needed in the kitchen, a great BBQ, lawn chairs, all was great.
We really enjoyed Shadow Lake Beach Retreat. There were very few bugs, great sunsets and we loved the beach and shallow water for the young kids. The cottage was well stocked with essentials and very spacious. -Michelle J.
